What Are The Portuguese Citizenship Requirements?
To apply for Portuguese citizenship, you must meet specific eligibility criteria. The main requirements may include:
- Proof of legal residency in Portugal for the past 5 years (including GV holders): you can either submit all of your residence permits issued within this period or a certificate issued by AIMA (Agency for Integration Migration and Asylum). At the application moment you must hold a valid Portuguese residence permit.
- Obtaining a Portuguese language A2-level certification or a recognized Caple A2 course certificate.
- Proof that you have Portuguese ancestors up to the second degree (one of your parents or grandparents)

Required Documents for Portuguese Citizenship
- Have at least 5 years of legal residency：we can either submit all of your residence permits issued within this period or a certificate “Certidão de Contagem de Tempo”, issued by AIMA (Agency for Integration Migration and Asylum). They may state that the start date of their legal residence is earlier than the one on the card.
- Valid passport
- Valid Portuguese resident card
- Birth certificate
- No criminal records
- Passed the Portuguese Ciple A2 level exam or Completed a recognized Portuguese A2 level course
